Vintage 1940's-1950's Hawaiian Shirts

Vintage 1940’s-1950’s Hawaiian Shirts I think of as an experiment in time. Started in Hawaii in like garage factories started basically with the invent of superior quality Rayon in the late 30’s. Before that silk Kimonos were cut up and turned into colorful shirts. Rayon allowed dyes to hold and durability-a shirt was machine washable. These garage factories experimented with designs that often included local life, fauna and sea life. As their popularity spread with the GI’s moving stateside, mainland labels like Campus, Towncraft, McGregor included the Hawaiian shirt in their sportswear section.
